Midland Youth Championships 2008 |
08 May 2008 |
Rachael Kelly (14) was in dominant form at the Midland Youth Championships in Coventry last weekend, as she completed an impressive medal haul and also add a new time to her growing collection of NQTs.
In the Girls 14/15 age group Rachael brought home gold medals in the finals of the 50 Fly and 100 Fly, in times of 29.81 and 1.03.99 respectively. Rachael then also added silver in the 200 Fly, with a time of 2.27.34. In a pleasing turn of events Rachael then qualified fastest of all for the 100 Backstroke before going on to win a bronze medal in the final. Most importantly of all though she swam an impressive 1.08.83 in the heats to claim her 6th NQT of the year. Rachael also managed a 5th place finish in the final of the 100 Free.
Alexander Dawson (16) also reached two finals, in the 50 Free and 50 Breaststroke in the Boys 15/16 age group. Samantha Williams (16) qualified for the 100 and 200 Backstroke finals, while Sophie Trussell (17) qualified third fastest for the 50 Butterfly final.
A big well done to the team - Lesley Dawson, Rachael Kelly, Sophie Elsby, Samantha Williams, Sophie Trussell, Will Jones, Alex Fraser, Addison Brown, Joe Stanford & Alexander Dawson - who went to Coventry and competed against a very tough field of competitors. Last year we took just four swimmers to this event, so take then this time and see so many impressive displays is reason for us all to be pleased.

Congratulations to the six Newcastle swimmers who placed in the top three of the recent Staffordshire Skins competition down in Wolverhampton.
Jack Smith (11) won the boys 10/11 event, while Marcus Williamson (11) finished third in the same event. Alex Gough also (14) picked up a superb 3rd place finish in the Boys 12-14 event.
For the girls we had a very impresive 2nd place finish from Aeron Brown (13) in the Girls 12-14 Skins, as she jus edged out team-mate Rachael Kelly (4) in the event.
Finally, there was a great 2nd place finish from Samantha Williams (16) in the Girls 15+ event.
(Sincere apologies that there is no report from the team relay events on the same day but Staffordshire have not yet furnished an official set of results for the events. It will be included just as soon as the Staffs web-site is updated.)
